The decline of Ovarian Hormones.
A guilt-stricken patient contacted me as she was increasingly 'deathly scared of surgical menopause', which mainstream medical professionals told her was her only hope. She shared with me all her thoughts and feelings; she felt like she was going mad, and the guilt she felt was overwhelming as she thought her hormones were affecting those around her, i.e., colleagues, friends, and family. She is 42, with a family history of early menopause, both maternal Mother and Grandmother. She resides at a sea level, coastal location, and until now, has led a remarkable life feeling successful, parenting her two children, enjoying a loving relationship with her husband, and having supportive parents nearby. Her career has also been rewarding, leaving her questioning her life. Her guilt for feeling moody, unhappy, unsuccessful, unsupported, stressed most of the time, wracked with migratory and random pains, poor sleeping patterns, alcohol and food addiction that makes her feel better in the short term, weight gain and lack-lustre for life - just wanting to quit everything and move to the country by herself and curl up in a ball.
Her GP wanted to start HRT and commenced a course of MHT (menopausal hormone therapy), which in the short term worsened her symptoms, was ineffective for her mood and sleeping problems, and made the snacking (and need for instant gratification) worse. She was astounded that surgical intervention was the only way to improve her health and was in disbelief and very distressed. Now increasingly worried that addressing the ovarian hormone decline is via simply replacing oestrogen-based hormones. She has had friends with Cancers and other health afflictions of POF (premature ovarian failure) and AMA (advanced maternal age), and she didn't want the plethora of escalating issues to be all-inclusive.
Enter Climacteric Syndrome and Dr. Dee's expertise. She found her way to my clinic as a last resort in great frustration and great distress as 'things at home were so bad no one wanted to be around her after 5 pm'.
During our discussions, we addressed hormonal decline, created an understanding around the slow pace of the altering brain neurotransmitters, and highlighted what provokes musculoskeletal pain, mood changes and disorders, poor quality sleep, and notably 'hot moments', not necessarily hot flashes. Knowledge is power. Feeling supported evokes a sense of self-empowerment, and planning a path forward via natural applications is a pathway for hope.
Among the presenting symptoms of Climacteric Syndrome and the evolving patient's lifestyle, if not purposefully addressed, all made perfect sense to her; she felt so empowered and on target to make the required changes, purposefully and naturally. We implemented a homoeopathic course and prescription of non-estrogen approaches, self-empowerment practices, support, and a new vision for her future, along with tiny lifestyle changes at first. Three months later, she said she felt like a different and improved person and was excited to keep going to see what she was going to be like in 12 months! All of her 'hot moments' had gone, anxiety, palpitations, and the increasing depression had also diminished, and the insomnia. Her sleeping patterns now supported her lifestyle; she felt refreshed each morning and ready to lay the day!
She found a way to support others along a similar path, and it's her new passion and the reason to get up in the morning now that her children have grown up and she was feeling increasingly unneeded. BAM, a personal realisation along a pathway to her own enlightenment and health journey.
"There is always an underlying 'something' and a natural solution" she quotes happily! She now echoes this sentiment as she continues her journey in life to greater health and hormone regulation.
